It publishes original articles, based on empirical data, that contribute to the knowledge of natural heritage, biodiversity, geology, paleontology, or other related areas of the territory.

The print publication can be purchased at the bookstore of the Instituto de Estudios Riojanos (IER) and its website. The digital edition can be accessed through the OJS publications portal of the Instituto de Estudios Riojanos (IER) and through Dialnet.

Focus and Scope

Zubía promotes the rigorous and accessible dissemination of quality scientific research related to natural resources, experimental sciences, and mathematics in the Riojan environment. It publishes:

  • studies developed within the territorial framework of La Rioja,

  • research applicable to regional knowledge,

  • works of general scientific interest that present historical, environmental, or geographical connections relevant to La Rioja.

Publication Frequency

The journal is published annually.

Languages

The main language is Spanish, although works in English are also accepted. The abstract must always be provided in both languages.

Ethics Code

Zubía adheres to the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors (COPE), which implies international standards in ethics, impartiality, integrity, and editorial responsibility.

In research involving clinical or sensitive information, the anonymization of personal data and the corresponding declaration of authorization and ethical approval must be guaranteed.

Anti-plagiarism Policy

The submission of a manuscript implies that:

  • it has not been previously published,

  • it is not under evaluation in another journal,

  • it will not be published in duplicate without express authorization from the Instituto de Estudios Riojanos (IER).

The journal verifies originality through Crossref Similarity Check or other similarity detection systems.

Peer Review Process

The journal applies a single-blind peer review system:

  • initial evaluation by the Journal Management to determine thematic suitability,

  • review by at least two independent experts,

  • final editorial review and decision,

  • declaration of conflicts of interest to ensure impartiality.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content, based on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Retrospective articles are published in open access through Dialnet, which guarantees free and full consultation of all content.

Intellectual Property Policy

Once accepted and edited, works become the property of the journal Zubía and the Instituto de Estudios Riojanos, and may not be reproduced without express authorization.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Policy

The journal requires authors to explicitly declare any use of generative AI, following this format at the end of the manuscript:

"Declaration of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process", indicating the tool used, the purpose, and a confirmation of human review of the content.

It is not mandatory to declare the use of basic spelling and grammar correction tools.

Fee Policy

No fees are applied.

Editorial Practices in Gender Equality

The journal promotes inclusive and non-discriminatory language. The following should be avoided:

  • sexist, ethnocentric, or exclusionary expressions,

  • stereotypes and assumptions about gender, age, origin, or ability.

It is also recommended to integrate sex and gender-based analysis (SGBA) when the nature of the study requires it.

Funding and Acknowledgment Policy

Authors must:

  • clearly identify all funding sources,

  • explain the role of the funder, if any,

  • include acknowledgments in a separate section before the references.

Authorship and Contributions Policy

The journal promotes transparency in authorship, aligning with the CRediT taxonomy, which establishes 14 roles describing the actual contribution of each author (conceptualization, methodology, formal analysis, data curation, writing, supervision, etc.).

Each author must indicate the roles they have performed in the study.

Changes in authorship are only accepted before the manuscript is accepted and must have the written approval of all authors.

Research Data Policy

The journal requires the submission of all underlying data used in figures, tables, or analyses.

Data may be included as supplementary material or via a link to an official repository.

It is recommended to include a Data Availability section, indicating the repository and URL, before the references.
