The article provides a multidisciplinary overview of SARS-CoV-2 infection in La Rioja, from the emergence of the first cases to the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It highlights the significant advances made in diagnosis and prevention, particularly the development of the first messenger RNA-based vaccines. It also addresses the profound impact of the pandemic on both society and the healthcare sector, acknowledging the role of the various professionals who worked on the front line. The experience gained underscores the importance of maintaining adequate epidemiological surveillance and improving diagnostic tools in response to emerging and re-emerging infections. The monograph brings together, from different perspectives, the contributions of the various groups involved in combating the infection in La Rioja.
