In recent months we have experienced a global pandemic of dimensions that we could not have imagined a few years ago. We have learned new terms, new scientific techniques, how to interpret epidemiological data and, above all, how to appreciate the fundamental role of science. One of the main keys in this pandemic has been detection tests to find out if a person
is infected and to be able to trace cases. In this article, a description of the main tests is given, including information on what information they provide, the window of detection and the pros and cons. These techniques can be used not only for this disease, but also for many other cases and for various applications. This article is intended to shed light on the what, how and when of infectious disease screening tests in order to better understand these biochemical techniques.
