Preliminary study of the turtles from the Middle Miocene site of la Atalayuela 33 (Madrid, Spain)

En la parcela 33 del polígono industrial de La Atalayuela (Madrid, España)
se han encontrado fósiles del Mioceno Medio (Aragoniense) dentro del
contexto de los yacimientos de La Atalayuela. Destacan, por su abundancia
y diversidad, los de mamíferos. También se identifican restos de tortugas. Estos
incluyen placas desarticuladas y generalmente incompletas. Son compatibles
con testudínidos, es decir, con tortugas terrestres. Aunque la limitada
disponibilidad de caracteres no ha permitido realizar su atribución a nivel
de especie ni, en algunos casos, de género, la colección incluye especímenes
compatibles con Titanochelon y otros con un testudínido pequeño.
